Isla is home to the giant sea turtles that their eggs on its soft sand, from May to September. In fact, you'll see them right in front of Isla 33. In the past, sea turtles were killed for their meat, shell and eggs, but now Mexican federal Laws protect them. Volunteers patiently collect eggs from the beach late at night and nurture them until they hatch at the turtle farm to keep them safe from predators. After they hatch, the baby turtles are transferred to ponds and then taken to the sea by the local school children and tourists. Turtle releases are announced ahead of time and take place in July and August.

Seeing the hundreds of sea turtles that survive thanks to the care and love of the islanders is a unique experience and an example for the rest of the planet.
